Note from Mick Callaghan - Guv'nor at the Festival Bar

BEER, GLORIOUS BEER !!
We are aware there are a couple of people who attend the folk festival who enjoy the chance to sample a couple of real ales. Well this year the real ale and ciders on offer is bigger and better than ever before with over 20 real ales on offer and over 15 different ciders.
We have taken the stance to support local independent breweries and we the Isle of Purbeck , Piddle and Yeovil ales breweries have all been very well received at the festival. This year we are introducing a range of beers from the Hop Back Brewery.
Watch out this year for a couple of new additions that will certainly be popular.
- Piddle Brewery have produced a tipple entitled Leg Warmer which is a 4.3% ginger beer. What better than a proper alcoholic ginger beer! Nice and pale like the real thing with plenty of fresh ginger added to the copper along with Styrian Golding and Saaz hops to give it a fresh lemon earthy finish.
- Yeovil Ales have always been popular at the festival. We have had people queuing at the bar waiting for the Star Gazer to be tapped. This year they have set aside some of their new Lynx Wildcat Ale
- Lynx Wildcat is a 4.3% bronze full bodied hoppy bitter. Specialists malts provide a sweetness which is accompanied by grapefruity hop flavours and aromas.Lynx Wildcat is a commemorative beer celebrating the 40th anniversary of this Yeovil built Helicopter. The Lynx Helicopter has held the world helicopter airspeed record for the past 25 years. Let’s see if we can break the Folk festival record of the speed in which a barrel is emptied!
- We are eternally grateful to the Isle of Purbeck Brewery. Situated just down the road at the Banks Arms in Studland, they helped us out last year by delivering us some extra barrels on Sunday morning following a rather hectic Saturday night!! This year we will see their whole range of ales on show including fossil fuel – a light amber 4.1% bitter with a fresh malt and peppery aroma. Balance malt and the hop presence lead to a pleasantly dry clean finish.- Hop Back Brewery make a long overdue visit to the festival. We will have a full range of all their ales but watch out especially for the Summer Lightning. An extremely pleasant bitter, straw coloured beer with a terrific fresh, hoppy aroma. This, coupled with an intense bitterness, leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Probably the beer to receive the most awards in Britain! But be aware this light beer comes with a kick, weighing in at 5% abv
Also new for this year we are offering a commemorative Purbeck Festival glass. We will only have a short run of these available and will be on a first come first served basis.
