UPDATED for 2012 festival
At Purbeck Folk Festival it is our policy to reuse and recycle as much as possible to avoid over-consumption of resources. It has been a part of both our production and construction planning to reuse materials. In the last two years we invested more and more on reusing and recycling materials, decorations, equipment and all other infrastructures.
For 2012 we are maximizing all our materials stored in the warehouse. Big structures are thought as reusing materials, such as lycra, bamboo, wood, paints, carpets or fabrics.
We look to source our tradesmen, materials, suppliers and equipment from the local area where possible.
Toilets
The bacteria free, enclosed, long-term composting system implemented at PFF means:
Yielding the brunt of plant nutrients in our excrement as a clean, safe-to-use fertilizer for agriculture
Cutting up to 90 percent of the cost of waste handling, usually accumulated by transportation, meaning NO SEWAGE
Saving the water used for flushing toilets
We do have some flush toilets due to the restrictions of the site, these are supplied from a large rain water storage facility installed onsite.
PURBECK ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION TEAM
The PEAT (Purbeck Environment Action Team) Transition Purbeck - Down2Earth Yurt is back again this year ! Everyone is welcome. Please come and meet us, the yurt is a cosy place for conversations. There will be a recycle/reuse stall, books on environmental topics. Come along to learn to spin and knit using yarn from local fleece.
